Robyn's Permanent MakeupTransformation!

I have always loved makeup of any kind and was always buying eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick, etc.  I probably could open my own store with as many cosmetics that I have.  I was always searching for that perfect color and style that didn’t smear or the product that would make my eyes / lips look bigger and better than they naturally are.  I thought that would be a never-ending process since no product seem to live up to it’s promises.

But, in February, that all changed.  The salon where I get my hair done was expanding to include all kinds of neat stuff.  One of their new ideas was Permanent Makeup.  This included eyeliner, eyebrows, lip liner, and full lip procedures.  Needless to say, I jumped at the chance.  Just think of the possibilities - perfect eyes & lips.

My first venture was the eyeliner.  My eyes are really small and eyeliner always just would seem to disappear.  My eyes are hazel in color so I decided on brown as my liner color.  I was so excited until I actually layed down on that table.  Then I got a little nervous, but too late I was there.  She rubbed a little numbing cream over my eyelids and we waited for around 10 minutes.  Then she started - I could hear the buzzing sound, but it didn’t hurt at all.  She worked for probably almost two hours (top and bottom liner).  The worst part for me was when she had to wash my eyes out - I’m the world’s worst about putting drops in my eyes.  Go figure - I can’t stand anything near my eyes but yet I’m doing the ultimate thing - having them tatooed !!!

During the time that she was doing my liner, she started talking about eyebrows.  I have eyebrows, but they are sparse in areas and have no definite shape.  So, while I was there, I told her to go for it!!  Once she was done with my liner, she started on my eyebrows.  I selected a light brown with a touch of topaz.  In another couple of hours, she was done with me and I got to check myself out in the mirror.  Let me warn anybody that has this done - it is definitely a shock.  My eyebrows were so dark - I was so afraid I had done the wrong thing.  But the shape was unbelievable !!!!  And I loved my liner !!!!   I went home and my hubby called me Groucho Marx .

For 6 days, my eyes were slathered with vaseline.  After the first day, you notice when you swipe a q-tip over the area, there will be small flakes of color.  This is the healing period when the top layer comes off.  It’s no makeup (just vaseline for 6 days).  The color lightens each day and when you finally put makeup on it is unbelievable the difference.  Most cases after a month, the procedure needs to be retouched to get everything just perfect.  I had my eyeliner retouched and added a little teal green on top of the brown at the outer corners.

Ok, I loved my eyes so I HAD to do my lips !!  I have no upper lip so here I head to her again.  She suggested that I go to a dentist to have a shot of novacaine, but I figured I could handle the pain.  I started 45 minutes before the procedure rubbing numstick on my lips.  When she broke the skin, I felt a stinging sensation but no pain.  The most sensitive area was the cupid’s bow but it wasn’t bad.  But of course everyone’s pain threshold is different, so if you think you need novacaine, by all means get it.

The color I wanted was a natural lip color (sorta like a baby’s lips). She used Mocha with 3 drops of Magenta.  She worked on them for 3 hours straight - and I loved them!!!!  The color was a little dark at first, but still looked great.  The next day they started peeling a lot. That’s the worst part - it’s like a bad case of chapped lips for about 5 days.  Just keep vaseline on them.  The next week it was like all the color had pretty much soaked in and at times, even looked like I had lost all of it.  But all of a sudden it just comes back.  It was still not quite the color I was looking for so I went back for a retouch just last week.  She outlined my lips a little more and a little darker than the inside.  They turned out good and the peeling is not near like it was the first time.  She said I will need at least one more touchup on the lips.   But the result is marvelous.

I would highly recommend this to anyone.  It is probably the best thing that I have ever done.  I went from having no eyes and lips to being able to go without ANY kind of normal makeup on and look great.  I wear just a swipe of eyeshadow and a little swipe of mascara (sometimes not even that).  When I get up of the morning, I have a made up face - it’s great !!!

The eyeliner (top & bottom) cost $250, eyebrows - $250 and full lips $450.  She also does just the lip liner, but I wanted the whole thing. Just think of all the money you save in the long run though, not to mention the time saved !!!!!!!!

If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me at robyn.malone@noaa.gov.  I remember I had all kinds of questions, but didn’t have anyone to ask.  It’s always better if you can get it straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak.
